The creator of the most iconic taxi, The London Taxi Company, wants to establish themselves as an essential part amongst taxi fleets all over Europe. Especially Germany is a huge market of growth.
For the announcement, the chairman of the London Taxi Company (LTC) Carl-Peter Forster, President Peter Johansen, Head of Sales Richard Gordon and Chief Design Officer David Ancona have all traveled to Berlin to present the first prototype of the upcoming TX5 model.
The Black Cab’s new philosophy could not be seen at the very first moment of prototype’s presentation. The iconic design was kept for many reasons (wheelchair accessibility being one of them). Everything new will be found in the interior or to be more precise „under the bonnet“. It’s a fully electric vehicle. A petrol engine will only support the battery after a longer trip than 150km. But it is not a seperate engine. It will only supply the battery. By this strategy drivers will be able to go as far, as they wish, but might not need any additional fuel, while on a regular shift. The car itself will still feature no seat next to the driver, but will have six in the back. The iconic form will be kept to still be fully accessible. Wheelchair users will now be able to look in the direction of travel.
There is no pricing available yet. But a new promise of an endurance of 15-20 years of each car, might make it even more affordable on the long run than many competitors.
