Thousands of London taxidrivers went on strike Wednesday, clogged the streets of the British capital.
For the protest illegal taxis, rickshaw drivers and ride-sharing apps are the basic targets. For example the UberTaxi service. This is the second protest by London taxi drivers in three months. On June 11 tens of thousands drivers were on strike. Simultaneous actions in other European capitals were also directed at Uber.
The demonstration started at 14:00 and ended at 16:00. The London taxi drivers criticized the non-approved and non-insured taxis. Particularly the London rickshaw drivers are a thorn in the drivers‘ flesh: they clog the streets and rip off tourists. Uber and other e-sharing companies are one of the reasons that led to the protest. Steve McNamara, of the licensed taxi drivers Association, calls on the municipality to enforce the law. jk
