On Monday, December, 1, probably the longest taxi ride of the year will start. It goes from Stockholm to Chamonix Mont-Blanc. Encounters with local taxi drivers on the route are encouraged.
The ride is a marketing campaign of the Stockholm taxi radio circuit Taxi Stockholm. A quarter of all Swedes, according to a survey, have a fear of flying. Two of them should therefore have the opportunity to reach a far more distant goal – not necessarily fast, but very conveniently and for once in a taxi without running meter.
“We are so excited to be able to offer this opportunity for two people. A road trip in a taxi is a very different experience to flying and will hopefully offer spontaneous adventures along the way,” said Carina Herly, Marketing Manager at Taxi Stockholm at the start of the registration phase a few weeks ago.
Until November 19, Swedes were able to apply for this taxi ride. On a certain website, they had to select the destination, name their desired driver and give a good reason why they of all people should be selected for this trip. The winners are two friends who wanted to go to the French town of Chamonix Mont-Blanc near the Swiss border.
The ride starts on December1 with a first overnight stop in Copenhagen. On 2nd December, it then continues through Denmark and Germany to Frankfurt. There is another overnight stay there before at 9 clock the following morning, the last part of the trips starts past the Black Forest and through Switzerland to Chamonix Mont-Blanc. At the end the taxi driver and his two passengers will have travelled 2.000 km and probably also experienced a lot as Taxi Stockholm promised an exciting programme during the trip: ”Taxi Stockholm will be working hard to make the journey as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Designed around the winner’s written entry, the trip will include accommodation and fun activities along the way”, says Carina Herly.
These could include some interesting encounters with taxi colleagues from the regions that are practically on the way. So if there are taxi drivers somewhere between Stockholm and Chamonix Mont-Blanc, who want to meet the Swedish taxi driver on his longest ride of the year, then please register under the hashtag #taxicharter.
The route passes through or nearby Norrköping, Ljungby, Malmö, Copenhagen, Lübeck, Hamburg, Hanover, Göttingen, Kassel, Giessen, Frankfurt, Darmstadt, Heidelberg, Baden-Baden, Freiburg, Basel and Bern. Jh
