The local taxi association in Essen, Germany, Taxi Essen, is trying to mount a frontal attack against the spread of the mytaxi taxi app. Taxi drivers who are affiliated with the taxi cooperative’s radio circuit and with apps like mytaxi, will have to forgo special lucrative jobs.
Mytaxi has already filed suit because it feels it is being discriminated. In an supplementary contract, the operators in the cooperative should promise not to take jobs from other suppliers. In return, they continue to receive the so-called ‘Plus Jobs‘. These include in particular lucrative hospital and hotel trips.
The dispute will have to be decided by the courts. The legal situation on double radio circuit bans is quite clear. But in Essen there could be a new precedent, since only certain contracts are excluded in the double radio circuit ban.
The CEO of Taxi Essen, Michael Rosmanek, spoke to the local newspaper Der Westen and didn’t seem very tolerant: „These entrepreneurs and their drivers undermine the solidarity of the cooperative. They undermine its existence.“
